An athlete removes bloody tape from a pull-up bar at Crossfit SEO during the 4th annual Crossfit SEO Throwdown in Athens, Ohio, on November 4, 2017.
This was my first time trying to shoot crossfit. It's a lot harder to stay out of the way and make strong photos than I thought. Crossfit gyms are also notoriously cluttered so it was impossible to get a neutral background. It was a fun challenge though, and I hope I get an excuse to shoot it again.
This athlete tore the blisters on his hands during the second workout of the competition. It's a pretty common occurrence in Crossfit, even with grips. Anytime athletes are doing high volume work on a bar, someone is bound to tear.
This guy teared a lot. Even though I SCREWED UP THE FOCUS I still like this photo. I like the first one more. I wish it was a little more clear what was happening though. One of my most common criticisms is that I don't get tight enough, so I was happy to get a tighter shot that I thought was pretty successful. Or I just feel his pain, because I can't count the number of times I've torn my hands up like him.
